Rolex Daytona “Paul Newman” 6241

The Rolex Daytona is widely recognized as one of the most iconic chronographs in history and, along with the Submariner, probably the brand's most legendary model. Introduced in 1966, the 6241 is the second Daytona reference to feature the black acrylic tachymetric bezel. Several dials were available on this model, but the most sought-after are obviously the so-called "exotic" dials, more commonly known by the nickname "Paul Newman". Among other features, they feature a matte texture, special fonts in the subdials and a red exterior minute track. There are two variations, the first with black sub-dials on a white dial, also known as "panda". The second, with white sub-dials on a black dial, is known to collectors as the "reverse panda". This piece dates from around 1971 and has been very well preserved. The case and bracelet are in good condition, with the edges still sharp, something that is becoming difficult to find on a timepiece of this age. The most important part of this icon, the dial, is in a remarkably well-preserved state, with clear, unaltered writing. The white of the dial has gained a soft and even patina, turning to cream, adding further charm to the watch. The tritium is entirely original and has not been relumed.
